Doris M. Lawson

BETTENDORF — Celebration of Life Services for Doris M. Lawson,62, Bettendorf, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's UnitedMethodist Church, Davenport.Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, withgraveside services at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home,Davenport.

Mrs. Lawson died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at her home after avaliant and extended struggle from cancer diagnosed in 1994.

She worked at the Henry County Savings Bank in Mount Pleasantafter graduating from Mount Pleasant High School class of 1958, andfor several months after moving to Davenport she worked at BrammerManufacturing Co. in Davenport. After their two daughterswere in school, Doris started working with her husband in theirinsurance and financial services business. Doris served as the vicepresident of Lawson Financial Services, Inc. and Lawson FinancialAdvisory Corp. until her latest illness.

Doris Shellabarger was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, theoldest daughter, to Dwight D. and Marjorie I. (Mallams)Schellabarger. She married Kenneth E. Lawson on Sept. 28, 1962, inMount Pleasant.

She was a member of the Questors adult class and the UnitedMethodist Women at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport, and had been a member since1963. Doris enjoyed watching classic movies on Friday nightspresented by the Open Cities Film Society. Doris also had alife-long interest in bowling. She was on a bowling team whileliving in Mount Pleasant. After moving to the Quad-Cities sheenjoyed bowling with her new friend, Darlyne Monner, untilDarlyne's death in 1994. Even after Doris started getting sick, sheenjoyed bowling and dinner with friends at the Davenport Outing Club. Doris alsoenjoyed seeing things grow and enjoyed working with her plants.Doris' other interests included genealogy, reading, cooking andcookbook and recipe collecting.

Doris joined her husband in his many interests and enjoyed carrallies sponsored by the Valley Sports Car Club, and the HeadersHot Rod Club. One of her greatest thrills was to ride in herbrother Burton's 1958 Ford retractable convertible around theIndianapolis 500 race track in 1992 while attending a rod andcustom show in Indianapolis, Ind. Doris enjoyed traveling andstopping along the way to see all of the sites and stopping tovisit with friends and family members whenever possible.

Doris's father and two uncles were John Deere dealers in MountPleasant until the early 1960's. They were involved in the OldThreshers Reunion and had many displays of cars, and tractors andgas engines in the annual show. Doris almost never missed spendingthe first weekend of September in Mount Pleasant enjoying the manydisplays and activities. She and her brothers and sister have a1914 LaCrosse line drive tractor that they operate in the show eachyear.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Foundation ofSt. John's United Methodist Church of Davenport, Old Threshers Foundation,or the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth E. Lawson, Bettendorf;daughters, Vicki M. Poe, Nederland, Colo., and Sheri L. Jandik, NewVirginia, Iowa; brothers, Wendell K. W. Clair Slocum

MOLINE — Services for W. Clair Slocum, 92, Moline, formerly ofBondurant, Iowa will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Federated Church,Bondurant, with visitation one hour prior to service time at thechurch. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery, Monroe, Iowa.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd.,Moline.

Mr. Slocum went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2002,at Trinity Medical Center-West, Rock Island.

He was employed for 35 years at J.I. Case in Rock Island as amachinist and carpenter, retiring in 1972. He also worked forMcLaughlin Body Co., Moline.

He was born Nov. 4, 1909, in Marion County, Iowa to Zachary G.and Bessie May (Waisner) Slocum. He married Ideal I. Viers on Sept.26, 1936, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on Feb. 11,1970. He later married Genevieve Dawson Finch on Aug. 1, 1970, inBondurant, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1991.

He was a 50-year member of Bethany Baptist Church in Moline andhe was also a member of Geneseo Assembly of God. He was a kind andgentle man who loved woodworking and fishing. He was a die hardCubs and Hawkeye fan. He was a wonderful father and truly the idealgrandfather. He was a man of very strong faith who truly livedit.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Slocum, sisters,Anna Koons and Doris Lee, a granddaughter, Renae Forster, and agreat-grandchild, Caitlyn Slocum.

Delores C. Jehring

MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Services for Delores C. Jehring, 80,Maquoketa, formerly of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesdayat Runge Mortuary, Davenport.Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Mrs. Jehring died Saturday March 16, 2002, at the Maquoketa CareCenter. Delores Rohrer was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Davenport to John and Catherine(Haugh) Rohrer. She married Clarence Jehring on Feb. 28, 1942, inKahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1991.

Delores was a homemaker and loved to play cards and bingo, andenjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a memberof St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and CraigJohnston, Maquoketa; three grandsons and granddaughters-in-law,Damian and Angela Johnston, Green Bay, Wis., Darian and JonquilJohnston, Madison, Wis., and Brandon and Rachel Johnston, Gilbert,Ariz.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Richard Fording,Davenport.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents and a sister ininfancy.

Donald Kimbell

ROCK ISLAND — Services for Donald E. Kimbell, 79, Rock Islandwill be 10 a.m. Wednesday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burialwill be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, where militaryrites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Velie Post 2153and American Legion Post 246, both of Moline, where he heldmemberships.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He retired from Allstate Insurance Co., Moline in 1990 as asenior casualty claims adjuster.

He was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Wakefield, Neb., to Elmer F. andRuth E. (Campbell) Kimbell. He married Virginia F. Nickels Aug. 21,1949, in Davenport. She diedNov. 13, 1985. He married Donna M. Burke Cramm Sept. 16, 1989, inMoline.

He was a member of Beta Omega Sigma Fraternity at AugustanaCollege, 94th Division Association and Friends of Rock IslandLibrary. He was also an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,reading and translating. He was a fine family man and friend toall. He left a lot of special people in his life who loved himdearly.

He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 94th InfantryDivision in Europe as a combat infantryman and as a companyinterpreter receiving the C.I.B. After the war he was recruited andemployed by the Counter Intelligence Corps working in Europe for anadditional 10 months.

Memorials may be made to the family or VNHA Pathway Hospice.

Winifred Heist

Mrs. Heist died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Trinity MedicalCenter-West Campus, Davenport.

She had been employed at the Ward Drugstore in Geneseo as aclerk for several years. She later worked as a teller andbookkeeper at the Farmers National Bank in Geneseo, retiring in1984.

She was born Sept. 1, 1920, in New Boston, Ill. She marriedHarris Kolsrud in 1946 in Moline. He died in 1976. She then marriedBob Heist in 1984. He died in 1998.

Beulah Anderson

MOLINE — Services for Beulah M. Anderson, 95, Moline will be 1p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., Moline.

Mrs. Anderson died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Trinity MedicalCenter-West Campus, Rock Island.

Beulah Swan was born August 12, 1906, in rural Prophetstown,Ill. to Levi J. and Fannie (Franks) Swan. She married GeorgeAnderson on Dec. 31, 1932. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27,1994.

Beulah was a dedicated mother and housewife.

She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Moline. Shewas also a member of the Lady Eagles Auxilliary.

She enjoyed her time with her family and her friends from herchurch.

Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ,Moline.

Merry Jones-Tillman

GILBERT, Ariz. — Services for Merry Carol HayslettJones-Tillman, 46, Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Davenport and Moline, will be 11 a.m.today at the Gethsem*ne Park Apostolic Church, Mesa, Ariz. Burialwill be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mesa, Ariz.

She was a current resident of Kansas City, Mo., where she was aneducator in the Hickman School District. She was residing inArizona with her parents during the last days of her illness.

Francis Donohoe

WEST BRANCH, Iowa — Services for Francis B. "Bud" Donohoe, 80,will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, WestBranch. Burial will be in St. Bridget Cemetery, NolanSettlement.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Bernadette Church where awake service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Donohoe died Saturday March 16, 2002, at Mercy Hospital,Iowa City, Iowa following a short illness.

He and his wife farmed in the area all their life.

He was born May 27, 1921, at Nolan Settlement, near Solon. Hemarried Neva Jean Olddorf in 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She diedin 1987.

A memorial fund has been established.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Gordon, Iowa City, KathyLeonard, Tallahassee, Fla. and Janelle Born, Coralville; sons,Robert and Brent Donohoe, both of West Branch, and Brian Donohoe,Iowa City; and a sister, Margaret Winter, San Diego, Calif.

Frankie Martin

KEWANEE, Ill. — Services for Frankie V. Martin, 82, Kewanee,will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home,Kewanee. Burial will be in Osceola Grove Cemetery, Osceola,Ill.

Visitation is one hour prior to services on Tuesday at thefuneral home.

Mrs. Martin died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Oakwood HealthCare Center, Kewanee.

She was a homemaker.

She was born July 14, 1920, in Osceola, Ill. She married HaroldL. "Billy" Martin in 1936. He died in 1997.

Survivors include nieces, Shirley Cravens, Kewanee, Pat Wohl,Peoria, and Lula Maddox, Long Island, N.Y.; a nephew, RobertBishop, Iowa; and great nieces, Susie and Alicia Bent, Wyoming,Ill.

Robert Foster

CORYDON, Iowa — Services for Robert "Buck" Christy Foster, 66,Corydon, formerly of Centerville, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at ThomasLange Funeral Home, Centerville. Burial is in PhiladelphiaCemetery, Mystic, Iowa.

Visitation is Wednesday with the family present from 6-8p.m.

Mr. Foster died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the Wayne CountyHospital, Corydon, Iowa.

He worked at Oscar Mayer in Davenport and was a trucker most ofhis life.

He was born July 7, 1935, in Brazil, Iowa. He married GeorgeneWatts in 1952 in Milan, Ill.

He served in the Air Force from 1955-59.

Survivors include his wife, Georgene, Centerville; a daughter,Roberta Lynn Honabach, Bonnie Lake, Wash.; sons, Donald WayneFoster, Robert Russell Foster, Centerville, and David Scott Foster,Centralia, Wash.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;two step grandchildren; a sister, Betty Brewer, Wheatland; and abrother, Larry Foster, LeClaire.

Donald Jensen

CLINTON, Iowa — Services for Donald L. Jensen, 81, Clinton, willbe 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. LemkeFuneral Homes & Crematory, Clinton. Burial will be in ClintonLawn Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors conducted by theAmerican Veterans Post 28.

Visitation is 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service hour at thefuneral home.

Mr. Jensen died on Saturday, March 16, 2002, at FreeportMemorial Hospital, Freeport, Ill.

Donald was employed with Clinton Corn Processing, Clinton for 35years, as a pipe fitter, until retiring in 1976.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1921, in Clinton, Iowa. He married VernaMae Winegar in 1945, in Clinton. She died in1988.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from July7, 1942, until he was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1945. Duringhis service, he was attached to the 90th Bomb Squadronorganization.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Doden, Freeport, Ill.; ason, Eric D. Jensen, Eagan, Minn.; three grandchildren; brothers,Robert Jensen, and Kenneth Jensen, both of Clinton, Iowa; andsisters, Pauline Bond, Bloomington, Ind., and Janet Cleary, Dallas,Texas.

Edna Lohaus

CLINTON, Iowa — Mass of the Christian Burial Services for EdnaS. Lohaus, 83, Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at JesusChrist Prince of Peace Parish, Saint Mary's Catholic Church,Clinton. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton.

Mrs. Lohaus died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in her home.

She was a homemaker.

Edna S. Buckingham was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Horse Cave, Ky. Shemarried Leander F. Lohaus in 1941 in Monmouth, Ill. He died Jan. 3,2001.

Memorials may be made to masses.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Jones and LeeAnn Birdsley,both of Clinton; three grandchildren; and sixgreat-grandchildren.

Betty Lynch

MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Private Graveside Services for Betty M. Lynch,71, Maquoketa, will be held at a later date from the BridgeportCemetery, Maquoketa.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Carson & Son Funeral andCremation Services, Maquoketa. Cremation rites will be accordedfollowing the visitation.

Mrs. Lynch died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Genesis MedicalCenter-West Campus, Davenport.

In the early 1960's Mrs. Lynch had worked on the assembly lineat Clinton Engines in Maquoketa. She then worked as a nurses aideat several nursing homes in Maquoketa for many years, retiring in1991.

Betty Arterberry was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Maquoketa. Shemarried Earl Lynch in 1967 in Nashua, Iowa.

Survivors include daughters, Kathy Shady, Maquoketa and SallyStevens, Oklahoma; a son, Gary D. Hughes, Oregon; sixgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren;and four step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 2001.
