How to check 401k balance Target? ›

You can access your 401(k) account online at www.targetpayandbenefits.com. You will be required to enter your User ID and password to log in.

Once signed into your account, you'll find your benefits in one central spot with your personal dashboard. Explore and learn more at Target.com/circle or through the Target app. Target.com: Once you sign in to your account, select Target Circle in the top right corner.

Option 1: Check online through your plan provider

You'll be able to access your 401(k)'s current balance and performance through an online portal with your plan provider. The portal should be easy to find on Google as long as you know what company holds your account.

401(k) plans automatically send quarterly statements to their participants by mail. In addition, you can get your 401(k) statement by accessing your 401(k) account online and downloading your most recent statement, along with past statements for as long as you've been contributing to the plan.

If you have a 401(k) plan through Target at Alight and no longer work there, you have a few options. You can leave it with Alight, roll it over into an individual retirement account (IRA), roll it over into a new 401(k), or withdraw the funds (may incur tax penalties).

However, the general rule of thumb, according to Fidelity Investments, is that you should aim to save at least the equivalent of your salary by age 30, three times your salary by age 40, six times by age 50, eight times by 60 and 10 times by 67.

One important way to make sure you're on track to meet your retirement goals is to check your 401(k) account (or other retirement savings) at regular intervals to measure your progress. For most people this means twice a year – unless you're within a few years of retirement, then you might want to check more often.
